Walking target
Daily Step Goal for Weight Loss
About 7,000 steps/day is a useful adult health benchmark, but there is no single step count that guarantees weight loss.
Practical reference: about 7,000 steps/day. A 2025 systematic review found meaningful health associations around this level, but it is not an official WHO or CDC step requirement and the review did not establish one exact target for every age or body weight.
If you currently walk less than 7,000
Treat 7,000 as a direction to work toward gradually, not as a pass/fail threshold or an instruction to jump there overnight.
If you already walk more than 7,000
There is no reason for HealthPro Tools to tell you to reduce a comfortable routine just to match the benchmark. Keep your usual level if it is sustainable and appropriate for you.
For weight loss, steps are only one part
Weight change depends on total energy intake and expenditure. The integrated Weight Loss Planner combines this walking reference with a weekly activity target and a daily calorie estimate rather than inventing a “steps to lose X kg” formula.
